How much do fitted wardrobes cost?
A fitted wardrobe wall costs £1,200 to £4,000 in the UK, supplied and fitted. A single-wall hinged run in painted MDF sits near the bottom; a sliding-door run with a fitted interior sits near the top.

Quotes that look far below this range usually assume flat-pack carcasses fixed to the wall rather than built and scribed in place. That is a legitimate product but it is a different one.
What moves the price
- Doors. Hinged is the cheaper option; sliding adds the track, the frame and around £400 to £900 for a typical run.
- Interior. Hanging rail and one shelf is the base. Drawers, shoe racks, pull-out rails and lighting each add.
- Carcass material. Painted MDF is standard. Veneered or solid timber adds 30% to 60%.
- Room geometry. Sloping ceilings, chimney breasts and out-of-square walls add a day or more of scribing.
- Finish. Spray finishing costs more than brush and is usually a separate trade.
What the job involves
The work splits into three stages. A carpenter measures the opening and scribes a frame to it, because almost no wall is plumb and almost no floor is level: the frame is what makes the doors line up afterwards. Carcasses go in next, either built on site from MDF and ply or assembled from workshop panels. Doors and interiors come last, and this is where the money goes. Hinged doors are cheaper and give full access to the interior. Sliding doors cost more and lose around 100mm of depth to the track, but they need no swing space, which is why they win in small bedrooms.

How long does a fitted wardrobe take?
Two to four days on site for a single wall once the parts are ready. Workshop-made carcasses add two to six weeks of lead time before that, which is where most of the wait sits.
Do fitted wardrobes add value to a house?
They are usually treated as a fixture and stay with the property, and in bedrooms with awkward eaves or alcoves they solve a storage problem a buyer can see. Nobody should install one purely as an investment.
MDF or solid wood?
MDF for painted carcasses and doors: it is stable, takes paint without grain showing, and does not move with humidity. Solid wood for anything that will be stained or oiled, and for face frames that need to take a knock.
